International Student Services

International Mentor Program

Become involved with mentoring other international students.

Each year the Office of International Student Services selects exceptional international students to lead as International Peer Mentors. Undergraduate and graduate students are selected and paired with new international student mentees. Our mentors are each unique and diverse in their own way, studying various majors and coming from countries all over the world.

Mission

The International Mentor Program at Adelphi University is designed to have international student leaders serve as peer mentors and guide new international students through key adjustment periods. Incoming students may experience culture shock, homesickness, and have trouble building new support systems in the United States. During this time, our peer mentors provide relevant information, opportunities, and programming to aid in their transition and help with student success inside and outside of the classroom.

Goals

  • To gain the necessary knowledge of Adelphi University services and opportunities
  • To develop meaningful relationships with the campus community including administration, faculty and peers
  • To develop and implement a program designed with a global perspective for the cultural community
  • To develop students with the tangible leadership skills necessary for student success
  • To create a support system that empowers students to reach their potential and step out of their comfort zones
  • To bring the diverse Adelphi University community together and have fun while doing so!

As a senior Computer Science major, I am a coding enthusiast, a cinephile, an audiophile and the president of International Student Society on campus. You can probably find me at either Post Hall Lounge or Nexus Rooftop on most days. My doctrine in life is the simplification of complicated things.”

Fabian Sealey
Undergraduate Student
Major: Physics
Home Country: Guyana
e – fabiansealey@mail.adelphi.edu
Bio: “My name is Fabian Sealey and I am an international student from Guyana. My major is physics and I am also currently pursuing a minor in environmental studies. I’m in my senior year so I have a lot of handy experience related to things such as the best wifi spots on campus, secret study locations and the best places to grab a bite. When I’m not studying, I love to try new foods…like different kinds of chicken and take rides on my fixie bike. I am always ready to lend a hand so don’t be afraid to reach out or ask questions. I am however extremely bad with directions so approach with caution when you need information about places off-campus; you’ll probably end up more lost than you originally were. We’ll have fun getting lost together though, hopefully.”

Sikandar Shahzad

e – sikandarshahzad@mail.adelphi.edu
